Open Scepticism
Open Scepticism is Today’s topic. I will write a little bit about my worldview and ideas concerning this. I have been into spirituality and self-help for a long time. What I found most interesting is the idea of pushing beyond what is considered possible. The idea of “superpowers” have always fascinated me.
On the other hand, I know many charlatans are out there. Much information doesn’t work or doesn’t deliver what they promise. That’s the danger of being too open. You have to balance it with being sceptical, also.
I am being just open or sceptical.
The exciting thing here is that you cant be one of them. If you are only open, you are naive; you can be fooled. People can lie to you, and you will believe them. You will believe the next thing another person tells you, even if it contradicts what you believed in first. If you are not sceptical, you may not find the truth. It would be best if you had Scepticism, especially working with a complex subject where there are a lot of smoke and mirrors.
The problem with being only sceptical is that you can miss out on opportunities. Because you are so closed-minded, you miss essential information. You don’t believe in it. Some sceptic tends to only believe in what science shows us. This is a great approach. Does the problem come if science then proves, for example, some paranormal effect? Then what? As a REAL scientist, you should also believe in what you thought was impossible if the data supports it. As we know, there are a lot of studies done in parapsychology. The rigid sceptic doesn’t want to believe in the findings. They say that the findings of any paranormal must be Fraud.
I was being both open and sceptical.
The balance here is that you have to be open and a sceptic at the same time. If somebody tells you something, it might be accurate, but it could also be false. You hold your position as an open-minded sceptic until further knowledge comes. With time you get more information to add to the original idea. More information will often make you believe your case stronger or dismiss it. Sometimes the truth is not a complete dismissal of your case. Sometimes there a just minor tweaks and nuances to your case. This is the way to search for the truth; it cant be other ways. Open Scepticism is the best tool available!
